Brief Pool Deck Installation Process

Installing coping around the edge of the pool is the first step.  Depending on the project, we offer thick and think coping pavers.

Our installers will then prepare the surface area where the brick pavers will be installed.

Once pavers are in place, the deck is then washed and swept with sand.  This will fill in the spaces between the brick pavers.

Lastly, if you choose, a clear sealer will be applied to the pavers.  This sealer will help prevent mildew growth and stains.  Another benefit of applying a sealer is that it brings out the rich colors of the pavers.

How Strong Are Concrete Pavers?

Concrete pavers are typically 2 to 3 times stronger than normal poured concrete when installed correctly.  Keep in mind, the strength is not just in the pavers, installing the concrete base under the pavers in the appropriate depth adds to the strength.

What KeepsThe Paver Edges From Moving?

There is a lot that goes into installing pavers correctly.  Keeping the edges from moving requires installing the proper base and using the correct materials for each job. Crushed rock and about 1 1/2” of concrete or unite sand are the materials recommended.  Proper edge restraints is fundamental to keeping the pavers from spreading.

Is It Hard To Clean Pavers?

Some homeowners tend to use a pressure washer on pavers.  However, if you decide to do this, do not use any more than 1,000 to 1,200 PSI or you may cause damage.  Luckily, there are cleaning products specifically made to clean pavers.  Hiring a professional cleaner for your pavers is recommended for any serious stains.

Can Concrete Pavers Be Placed Over Concrete?

Although it is better to remove the existing concrete before adding pavers, they can be placed over concrete.  To do this, the existing concrete should be relatively flat without cracks.  In addition, there needs to be room to increase the elevation by 1 to 2 1/2 inches.  We would have to evaluate each project to determine if placing pavers over concrete would be feasible.

How Can I Repair My Pavers If A Tree Root Creates An Uneven Area Or A Paver Is Damaged?

One of the best things about using pavers in your hardscape is that they are easily replaced.  We advise setting aside several pavers at installation so that you have replacements that match the exact color of what is being installed.  The interlocking pavers are fairly tight, so the first one will be slightly difficult to get out.  With a flat blade tool you can work the paver out.  There are times when you may need to break the paver more in order to get it out.  As always, we are available to help you with any paver maintenance and repairs you need.

What Type Of Paver Is Better?

In general, there is very little difference between pavers.  However, some pavers are better for certain projects due to compressive strength, water absorption rate and abrasion index.  Our professional team can help guide and educate you on the different styles and which pavers would be best for your project.

Should Pavers Be Sealed After Installation?

Sealing pavers is not necessary, it is up to the homeowner.  Sealing the pavers does prevent color fading and protects the pavers from certain stains.  Pavers have to be clean and dry prior to sealing.  If you choose to seal your pavers, keep in mind that they will have to be resealed every two to three years.  If you need help removing stains from pavers or other hard surfaces, our team can help.

How Do I Keep Insects And Vegetation From Growing Between The Joints Of Pavers?

Sealing your pavers or using a joint and stabilizer product helps control ants and grass growing between the paver joints.  Weed killers like Round-Up or insecticides like Andro can be used as they typically do not stain pavers.  Alternatively, some customers like to install artificial grass or moss between pavers for the comfort and appearance.  We do suggest consulting without tea of professionals before starting a DIY project pertaining to your pavers.
